When installing the DivX codec, remember to uncheck "Generic MPEG-4 Playback"
Every mpeg4 codec theoretically can decode any other mpeg4 video (IE: the XviD codec can decode a DivX video) but usually at a lower quality or higher CPU usage.
Using the most specialized codec for every video is usually the best thing to do.
